ABOUT WILLIAM
William is 16 years old and has attended Charlton Park Academy since the age of 11. He was diagnosed with a Chromosome 4Q deletion after years of tests and advances in genetics. William's condition means he is non communicative as well as having severe learning and mobility difficulties. It also means he requires full time support.
During his time at Charlton Park Academy they have been instrumental in helping William gain basic life skills such as feeding himself and being able to undress. The staff arrange out of hours clubs for the pupils and their hard work and diligence helps the children who attend to lead as normal a school life as possible. William, also receives respite care through Rainbow House which is attached to Charlton Park Academy. Rainbow House provides overnight care and activities such as bowling and trips to the cinema. The children not only get some great leisure time, they also get to spend time with the other pupils outside of school time.
The Charlton Park Academy Fund was set up in 2000 to support Charlton School, now Charlton Park Academy, a secondary school for pupils with special needs in the London Borough of Greenwich. The pupils, aged 11-19, have a variety of special needs including autistic spectrum disorder, severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties. Many of them come from very deprived backgrounds and therefore face huge challenges to reach their full potential and be as independent as possible
